I’m giving a talk, and you’re invited

Two of my colleagues (2019) helping me to assemble the fabric maps that make up the outer walls of the installation before its first presentation in 2020.

Currently, I’m working on a talk that I will give several times in March. The school where I teach (Ursuline Academy in Dedham, MA) has invited me to present “Intervisible: Redlining and Blind Stitching in the Fabric of Greater Boston”. With the help of my fantastic students and our facilities team, I will begin installing the piece next week. It is a little bigger this time, because the space I’m using will allow it to spread out a bit. I’m so grateful that the school is hiring a hydraulic lift. The installation process last time was physically punishing.

Once the piece is up, I’ll give a talk to several groups including to faculty and students, parents, prospective students and parents, some of the Ursuline community from other parts of the country, and local community members. It will be 3 or 4 talks in all.

I’m working on my presentation now. It will include my research, an exploration of race in America as it pertains to the artwork, as well as a walk-through of my artistic process developing the piece. It is always a risk to speak publicly about race. I am so very grateful that my school has asked me to present this material to as many constituencies as we can gather.

If you are interested in attending one of my talks, sign up for my newsletter. The installation and the talks at Ursuline will take place in March. We are just finalizing exact times. I’ll be sending specifics out in the next couple of weeks.
