Slack Tide

The Slack Tide is the moment between high and low tide, when the water is still.

In 2021, Caroline and John had a two person show at the Chocolate Church Gallery in Bath Maine. Each produced a series of paintings inspired by the coastal landscape. When they installed the show, they painted a map of the littoral zone, (the area between the high and low tide marks) of Popham Beach onto the gallery walls. Paintings were arranged in loose arcs as if they had washed up onto the beach.

This show occurred during the pandemic in a moment of pause, when we didn’t yet know if the tide of Covid 19 was going to continue to rise or to recede. It was only through the help of our two daughters, and the curator Kimberly Becker that the show and the unique installation of the artwork was able to take place.
